WAITING FOR AUTUMN

I guess it’s no surprise to you, that for me, as a landscape photographer, specialising in woodlands in particular, autumn is my favourite season for going out scouting and doing photography. After an aborted trip to the dolomites in the end of September, I was really looking forward for some success stories in terms of photography. Unfortunately our trip to Italy didn’t turn out as expected, due to tourists crowds and very warm weather. Speaking of, I mean blue skies and nearly zero clouds - a landscape photographer’s nightmare.

So we drove home already on the second day and back in Vienna I was surprised with my son being sent to Quarantine the next day due to a positive COVID-Case in his Kindergarten. That meant a failed vacation and 5 days at home with a little boy that demands all of your attention. Luckily I was still able to manage short scouting trips in the afternoon and went to have a look at a place which I found last year.

It was still early to get some decent and colourful autumn shots but I was surprised with beautiful greens, some nice diffuse light and gnarly barks, which in the case of the first image, I love most in this shot.

First Photo was taken in Lower Austria, near the city of Vienna, also the second one. And the third one is the one I took last year by end of November. So there is plenty of time and occasion to revisit and witness even more diverse colour palettes in the next weeks as it’s only the beginning of October.

The fourth shot was just a few steps away from the location of the first triplet and what it embodies a favourite element of mine in woodland photography;: detail as wells as delicate and small shapes in the foliage of the forest. Which is also the dominant element in shot Number five which was taken at another location which I revisited today as I was hoping to find something else than what you see on the photo. But I like what I got and in Landscape Photography you often need to improvise and reconsider when you were not pleased with the preferred conditions you were hoping for. See you out there!
